High-performance adhesive transfer tape

Strong, precise bonds for labels, overlays, and converted parts

3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tape 468MP combines a thicker layer of 3M™ High Performance Acrylic Adhesive 200MP with a sturdy polycoated kraft paper liner. It delivers reliable adhesion to metal and high surface energy plastics while improving wet-out on surfaces with slight texture or irregularity.

  • Clear 5 mil tape
  • 12 in x 180 yd roll
  • 200MP acrylic adhesive
  • 1 roll per case

Why choose 3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tape 468MP

Designed for graphic attachment and industrial joining, 468MP provides a clean, carrier-free adhesive layer that can be laminated and die cut into precise parts. The 5 mil construction offers more conformability than thinner 200MP transfer tapes when the bonding surface is not perfectly smooth.

Excellent holding power

High peel and shear strength helps resist slippage and edge lifting in long-term industrial attachments.

Improved surface wet-out

The thicker adhesive layer better conforms to slight textures and irregularities than a thinner transfer tape.

Process-friendly liner

A 58 lb polycoated kraft paper liner supports high-speed lamination, rotary processing, and die cutting.

Environmental durability

The 200MP adhesive performs well after exposure to solvents, humidity, water, and hot or cold cycling.

Recommended applications

  • Metal nameplates and equipment rating plates
  • Polycarbonate and polyester graphic overlays
  • Membrane switch overlays and complete switch attachment
  • Durable labels, flexible circuits, and medical components
  • Industrial foam lamination for rotary die-cut gaskets
  • Splicing and laminating metal or high surface energy plastics

Suitable substrates

Best suited to metals and high surface energy plastics. Test the complete construction under actual service conditions before production, especially when bonding coated, textured, plasticized, or lower surface energy materials.

Technical values are representative or typical only and are not intended for specification purposes. Actual performance depends on the substrates, surface preparation, pressure, dwell time, temperature, environment, and joint design.

Application and storage

  • Clean and dry the bonding surfaces before application, using a suitable method for the substrate and workplace.
  • Apply firm, uniform pressure during lamination and final installation to maximize contact between the adhesive and substrate.
  • Bond strength builds with dwell time and can increase with temperature when bonding metal parts.
  • Store in the original packaging at 16°C to 27°C (60°F to 80°F), 40% to 60% relative humidity, away from direct sunlight.
  • For best performance, use within 24 months of the manufacturing date.

Product selection and use

This industrial product must be evaluated for the intended substrate, loading, environment, and service life. The adhesive is optimized for metals and high surface energy plastics, so lower surface energy plastics may require a different tape or additional surface treatment.

Follow the current 3M technical information and workplace requirements. Test the finished assembly under actual use conditions before production approval.

Frequently asked questions

What is an adhesive transfer tape?

It is a pressure-sensitive adhesive supplied on a removable release liner without a separate film, paper, or foam carrier. The adhesive is laminated to the first surface, then the liner is removed so the second surface can be bonded.

What is the difference between the listed 5 mil and typical 5.2 mil thickness?

Five mil is the nominal selling thickness used in the product title. The current 3M technical data sheet lists a typical measured total tape thickness of 5.2 mil (0.13 mm) under ASTM D3652. Typical data can vary and should not be treated as a guaranteed specification.

Can 468MP be repositioned during assembly?

The 200MP adhesive provides some initial repositionability for placement accuracy when bonding to plastics. Repositioning time is limited and varies with the substrate, pressure, temperature, and contact area.

Is 468MP suitable for textured surfaces?

The thicker 5 mil construction improves wet-out on surfaces with slight texture or irregularity. It is not a gap-filling foam tape, so rigid or heavily textured assemblies may require a thicker adhesive system. Test the complete joint before production use.
